Chocolate, sourdough, whole wheat waffles!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup sourdough starter ripe
  • 1 1/4 cups water cool
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup dutch cocoa
  • 1/2 cup milk powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs large
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips semisweet, mini

Method
 

  1. To make the starter, mix the water, sourdough starter, and whole wheat flower in a medium bowl. Cover and set aside overnight.
  2. In the morning, in a large bowl, whisk the cocoa, milk powder, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and sugar.
  3. Pour the sourdough starter mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir in the eggs, melted butter, vanilla, and chocolate chips.
  4. Heat the waffle iron, and cook the waffles. You'll have to test them, it will be hard to see when they are browned because of all the chocolate. 🙂 Eat immediately, covered with whipped cream and fruit.
